Assistant Curator #loftintheredzone
In the late 90's, the many working artists that lived in the downtown area worked in Tribeca, Soho, Little Italy, Chinatown, Battery Park and the Financial district. After September 11, along with Ground Zero, those neighborhoods became known as "The Red Zone." Artists who were living in the Red Zone and that were personally affected by the tragedy, reacted only as artists do. They created.
For the 10th anniversary of the World Trade Center attack, Marika Maiorova created an art group exhibition called "Loft in the Red Zone" in the historic JP Morgan building on Wall Street. The exhibition recreated a typical downtown NY artist's live and work loft space after the 9/11 attack, honoring the victims, first responders and the great people of New York.
